Goal Setting and Karate

One of the most important life lessons that can be learned from karate is Goal Setting!  The act of training with the next test in mind.  The belt system of karate provides with steps.

To reach a worthy goal one must have a master goal, a plan, and a network of mini-goals.  In karate each belt is like a mini-goal, with the black belt as your master goal.  Your plan can include never missing class, training at extra seminars, training in your yard or basement, private lessons, tournaments, reading, watching videos and just plain old paying attention in class.  If you put the time and effort into figuring out a karate move that most 10 year olds put into figuring out a video game then you’re on your way!

Set a Goal, (an achievable goal).  Make a plan.  Do all kinds of things that help achieve that goal.  Set mini goals to make headway towards that goal.  Get a Mentor (like a Sensei).  Think about it once in a while (often).  Then tell the world to get out of the way!
