Be Colorblind

Be Color Blind

I almost let myself get discouraged at times when Sensei would give someone else a higher rank advancement than me.

I eventually came to the philosophy that I was ultimately training for me.  I needed to train for my own reasons.  Concentrate on my own rank and not worry about what anyone else was doing.  Karate became more fun.  I didn’t care about what anyone else had and I just enjoyed learning.  When I did that, belt after belt just happened and the students that I would’ve stressed over their rank quit anyway.

I discovered that one of my students was colorblind.  I then realized what an advantage that was.  He didn’t care what anyone had around their waist because it all looked the same to him.

So become colorblind in class and it will aid in your training.  Stressing out over the color of a belt is counterproductive.
