As Co Founders of the Connellsville Crime Watch we would like residents of Connellsville to pay serious attention to home defense and security.
We do hope to improve awareness of the citizens of Connellsville and surrounding areas. We teach many self defense classes to all ages but we advocate a much more complete approach. A home security system is a real good idea. A dog is one of the best home security assets. A dog will alert you and they can sense more than a human. There awareness is far and above the average human. There are also many inexpensive items that can alert you when someone enters your house. A proactive approach makes the most sense. Doing something after a crisis is not the answer.
Parents, supervise you kids. Know where they are. There is a curfew this year so the police will be watching for kids out late. Bored kids without supervision and in the presence of other bored kids will often get into mischief. Be a responsible parent and save yourself and your kid from the embarrassment of going through the legal system.
Schools will soon be out and the weather will warm up and here we go again. Some of the kids involved in recent crimes, simply stated that they were bored. Look around the house and see what points of entry can be secured better. Consider that alarm or dog. Start going to the Crime Watch Meetings and meet your neighbors and discuss stuff going on in your neighborhood. We’ve had speakers from the State Police, City Police, the local Police Dog, McGruff the Crime Dog, Woman’s Violence Center and Guardian Security and more.
Culver Karate Club has provided self defense training classes and will continue to offer this to the public. If you have a group that wants some training, let us know. We have recently been doing a great deal of training in the area of Bully Awareness and Safety. Contact us if you are insecure and just want some ideas or a class.
