Rhythm

It’s common knowledge that movement is important in kumite.  Some Karate-kas bounce and move and give no thought to the pattern they use.  This could have bad consequences.  When moving, you should move to hide your initial movement when you attack. On the other hand, movement can also cover your intentions when on the defensive.

When using movement you must not use a predictable pattern which is called Rhythm. You should move in an unpredictable manner which is called Broken Rhythm.  Never be predictable unless you’re using the predictability to set up your opponent!

However in life and in your training you must have a pattern, a rhythm, a plan!  Use rhythm in your fighting - you lose.  Fighting without a plan – you lose.  Fighting in a predictable pattern – again you lose.  However without rhythm, a pattern and a plan in your life – you lose!
