I think all my belts are priceless!!! My white belt was a big step for a 44 yr young person who was out of shape (not talking just being heavy but also about endurance). Each belt has a certain meaning (I am sure each students meanings are different also) and with that meaning is a sense of pride and accomplishment. I hope these other students testing soon will realize how immportant each life/karate test is.

Hey Perry,

Great share.

It's so easy and tempting to be mediocre. Excellence not only is energizing, it should scare one to death - because it brings one to life.

I remember when I only had 10 years of training in, and was a 2nd degree black belt in Chinese Kempo. I made a list, and used the YMCA's stat sheets to determing that I had trained with well over 1,000 people - who had come and gone.

Out of those 1,000 - today, only 3 still train that I know of. What's that tell you?

Lots of wiggle room on the bottom of the pile.

Be well my friend,

Mr Twenty Twenty
Whoooo yah!

This is an article that needs to be put in all schools newspapers. Maybe it would wake up parents, teachers and adminstrators, to the fact that sometimes you need to protect/take up for yourself. If the good kids are usually the ones getting bullied, they should protect themselves. I think that the more confidence a kid has, the less likely they will be bullied. Confidence doesn't mean arrogance but shows in the way you carry yourself, looking around at other people-not at the ground, and a quiet self-assurance. Karate is a great confidence builder, if kids stick with it. This is my opinion and I am sticking with it!!!
Have a great evenging Sensei Perry and Sensei Lori.
Your student and friend,
Violet

Sensei Culver,

Your article is written very well, and has many powerful points. The people who train in your karate school in Connellsville are learning the spirit of Karate-do as well as the physical side of the art.

It shows in your writing that you live the Karate Way. Karate taught well builds character, integrity, and helps you to grow personally.

Thank you for being an inspiring member of our community and for taking the time to teach Karate the way it is meant to be taught.

What is really sad is the amount of out of shape kids who have no idea what its like to be outside catching fireflys or play a game of kickball with the neighbor kids. Its all electronic! When kids come over now its not to go out to play its to stare blankly at the tv scream while playing virtual sports.. pathetic. Kids these days have NO IDEA how easy they got it and how LAZY society allows them to be.
